Who we are
Forum Tauri Press is an independent academic publisher dedicated to advancing scholarship on the cultures, histories, and artistic traditions that shaped Eurasia. We focus on the spaces of encounter and exchange that once defined—and continue to influence—the diverse worlds connected by the Silk Road.
Our list includes monographs, primary sources, memoirs, journals, and thematic volumes that illuminate the movement of peoples, ideas, religions, and material culture across continents.
Our Name
The name Forum Tauri—“Forum of the Bulls”—is drawn from one of the great public squares of ancient Constantinople. Originally built by Constantine the Great and later rededicated under Emperor Theodosius, the Forum Tauri stood at the heart of the Eastern Roman capital and survives today as Istanbul’s Beyazit Square.
As the largest public forum of its age, it symbolized cultural diversity, imperial vision, and the meeting of worlds—qualities that inspire our mission as a publisher devoted to the interconnected heritage of Eurasia.
Our Philosophy
At Forum Tauri Press, we believe that knowledge grows at the boundaries.
Eurasia’s civilizations were never isolated; they evolved through contact, conflict, transmission, and transformation. We publish works that reveal these connections and recover voices that speak across regions and centuries.
We value clarity, integrity, and intellectual openness, supporting the free and responsible circulation of scholarly knowledge while upholding high editorial standards and respecting the rights of our authors.
Our Mission
- To promote high-quality scholarship on Eurasia’s interconnected histories and cultural traditions.
- To publish works that highlight cross-regional movement, influence, and exchange across the Silk Road world.
- To provide a platform for rigorous, original, and globally relevant research.
- To support authors through careful editorial attention and sustainable publishing models.
- To contribute to a deeper understanding of the shared heritage linking Anatolia/Asia Minor, the Middle East, Central Asia, Inner Asia, China, Korea, and Japan.
Our goal is to balance global accessibility with rigorous editorial practice and author rights, ensuring that our publications remain both widely available and academically sound.
Trans-Regional Silk Road Studies: Our Focus
The concept of Trans-Regional Silk Road Studies defines the core of our publishing program. It encompasses research that examines:
- Cross-regional cultural interactions across Anatolia, Persia, Central Asia, Inner Asia, and East Asia
- Nomadic and sedentary societies, their institutions, political cultures, and artistic expressions
- Religious and intellectual networks, including Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, and local traditions
- Art, archaeology, and material culture, from antiquity to the early modern period
- Travel narratives, memoirs, and primary sources documenting inter-cultural encounters
- Urban and overland hubs—Istanbul, Samarkand, Kashgar, Dunhuang, Kyoto, and beyond
- Extensions and influence zones in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and East Asia
By “trans-regional,” we emphasize research that crosses boundaries—geographic, cultural, linguistic, or disciplinary—to reveal the interconnected nature of Eurasia’s past.
